3 places worth a visit.
22.07.2020
These are three places in Switzerland, that i did"t know about before. BRIG was used as a stopover on a journey.--ANDERMATT was recommended by a fellow tourist.-- MURTEN just sort of happened.---All are well worth a visit or more.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------MURTEN in German or MORAT in French, is in the See District of Fribourg Canton in West Switzerland. It is a small medieval town on the Southern shore of Lake Murten /Morat. It is the smallest lake in the Swiss Lake District. There are boat trips. The compact old town is surrounded by a Wall.,with covered walkways. Most of the ramparts are well preserved. Good views from the wall. --The Grand Rue is the main street and leads to the Berntor Gate. The clock in the tower is still wound by hand cranking,.I arrived in MURTEN by train. Bern is about one hour and Fribourg half an hour. Brig is just over two hours ,with two changes.-----
The clock is still wound by hand cranking.] -------------------------------------------------ANDERMATT is a mountain village in Uri Canton Switzerland, in the Urseran Valley. The altitude is 1,437m above sea level. The Adula Alps are all around.. There are two main Ski areas in winter.I visited on a day trip from Zermatt,by train the journey time was about three hours each way. Beautiful scenery all the way. After walking around the lovely
village i made my way back to the rail station. I heard an unusual noise, it got louder.
I came across a parade of men and boys, carrying and ringing cow bells of different sizes. The men and boys were dressed in sackcloth. The loud cacophony of cowbells could be heard a long way off. The parade is a Chilbis parade dating from 1397. -------------------------------------------------BRIG is in Valais Canton Switzerland, at the foot of the Simplon Pass to Italy.
I was travelling to Greece, Turkey and Cyprus by train ,ferry, and bus. So i used Brig as a stopover at an hotel. The town is easy to get around.
The main place of interest is the Stockalper Palace, a former Jesuits College, dating from 17th century. It has a triple tier in the courtyard.--- The railway station is a major hub, with three standard lines and two metre gauge lines. On the Matterhorn Gothard metre gauge line a train takes one hour twenty minutes to Zermatt.------------------ Lesser known parts of Switzerland.
